Biomass boiler sets college on the way to self-sufficiency

Berkshire College of Agriculture’s new boiler uses biomass fuel
collected from the Hall Place campus’s 18 hectares of willow fields.

It follows the installation of another biomass boiler in 2008. The
school says that when both systems are running the college is fully
self-sufficient on energy.

It was unveiled by the Lord Lieutenant of Berkshire, Mary Bayliss on Thursday, September 18.

It will save BCA an estimated £93,000 in fuel costs.

BCA is also in talks with an ‘external business partner’ to create an
apprenticeship programme to train engineers to service biomass boilers.
