Biomass installers warm up with Windhager
Renewable energy company, Life’s Energy, has enjoyed a successful association with Windhager since being co-founded over two years ago by Andy Louth, Nick Beal and Bill Stephenson.
Life’s Energy, based in Scarborough, offers a wide variety of renewable energy products such as solar PV and heat pumps alongside Windhager biomass boilers that they install and service predominantly in northeast England.
The financial savings that renewable energy can bring combined with popular interest in environmental welfare and the Governments RHI incentives have seen conversions to biomass heating increase drastically. The company’s growth is reflected in the recent official opening of Life’s Energy’s new showroom by Deputy Leader of the Green Party, Will Duckworth, which showcases working examples of the products they offer.
The three directors set up the business having had years of experience in trades that are vital to understand and confidently consult on renewable energy technologies. Andy Louth is a fully qualified surveyor and contributes to the design of the heating system when taking the intended installation property into account while Nick Beal, a heating engineer, oversees the practical engineering. Electrician, Bill Stephenson provides electrical expertise to all systems that Life’s Energy offers, guaranteeing that all projects undertaken by the company receives expert service in all areas.
Simon Deller of Life’s Energy commented: “As an MCS accredited Biomass installer we require excellent products and aftersales, and our relationship with Windhager ticks both these boxes. With more and more people enjoying the benefits of Biomass we look forward to recommending Windhager products.”
One such business that benefited from Life’s Energy’s extensive experience is Londesborough Motor Services in North Yorkshire. Rising fuel prices pushed them to look into renewable energy, contacting Life’s Energy to advise and design on what system would be best suited to heat their 6400 sq ft garage service area and offices.
Three Windhager BioWIN 60 kW wood pellet boilers were installed in conjunction with a 3,000 litre hot water accumulator tank. The stored hot water supplies seven blowers above the service area and radiators in the office space. Completed in just four weeks with minimal disruption, the services offered by the business were unaffected and Londesborough Motor Services will be financially benefiting from the non-domestic RHI payments the biomass system complies with combined with significantly reduced fuel bills.
The demand for commercial biomass solutions encompasses a wide market, proved by Life’s Energy’s installation at a farm that comprises holiday lets in the form of a cottage and bunkhouse. The rural property in Glaisdale needed its old and expensive oil heating system to be replaced with a more energy efficient and cheaper to run alternative.
Life’s Energy installed a 50kW BioWIN log boiler with two Accuwin 1500 litre accumulator tanks, using a disused barn as the plant room and storage area. The farms own woodland provides the logs needed to fuel the biomass boiler, and working in conjunction with Natural England, the wood is collected using the coppicing method to ensure the sustainability of the wood supply.
In return for the initial biomass investment the farm will benefit from significantly reduced fuel costs as well as receiving 8.6 p per kW/h for the next 20 years due to the non-domestic RHI scheme.
